Potential clients often enquire as to what standard or ‘grade’ of hair we use in-salon... Which is great we love these questions! It indicates to us that you’re doing your research and that you’re probably going to take very good care of your extensions! We have published this short article to try and help our lovely followers to navigate the relatively new and complex industry of Hair Extensions. Hopefully it will offer some clarity for you whether you are looking to purchase Hair Extensions here at The Hair Tech or elsewhere! After all... Knowledge is power! - There are 2 very important things to remember about the hair industry. Firstly: THERE IS NO SET STANDARD OR INDEPENDENT GOVERNING BODY IN THE UK, TO GRADE OR MEASURE THE QUALITY OF HAIR. Have you ever seen a company advertise their hair as ‘5AAAA****’? Well they will have come up with this classification - All by themselves! There actually isn’t an official standard by which to measure the quality of hair or a governing body to handle quality control. Unfortunately this means that there is no accountability should you receive a sub-standard hair product. Secondly: FOR A WHOLE BUNDLE OF HAIR TO BE LABELLED “100% HUMAN HAIR” IT ONLY ACTUALLY HAS TO CONTAIN ONE SINGLE HUMAN HAIR! This is a very little known fact however every Extensionist should know this (It’s one of these advertising loopholes that we see being used all the time). Usually, less expensive hair bundles will contain a low percentage of human hair and a high percentage of synthetic hair or sometimes even animal hair! Unfortunately the truth is, the only way to find a good hair supplier, is to try their hair for yourself! This is because often suppliers will try to disguise chemically treated hair with a thick artificial cuticle that often takes several weeks to wash off and reveal the the true poor quality of the hair. Luckily, most Extensionist's who trained with a decent college will have received a list of reliable suppliers from whom they can source their hair. Others (like us) work directly with suppliers to ensure only the best hair ends up in our salon!

So if you ask us what grade we use this is what we will tell you: The hair we use has an 18 month to 5+ year lifespan (the most common shelf life from whole-sale pre-colour suppliers is around 6 months) It is all 100% human hair (Legit) It is sourced ethically by donors who are paid fairly It is European or Brazilian which means it is of the highest quality available in the UK! Most importantly however, it will be of a similar fine texture to most British people's hair - so that blend will be #seamless And finally it has a seal of approval by us AND our clients
